Meissen porcelain is the first European hard-paste porcelain that was developed from 1708. The production of porcelain at Meissen, near Dresden, started in 1710 and is still in business today as Staatliche Porzellan Manufaktur Meissen GmbH. It's signature logo, the crossed swords, was introduced in 1720 to protect it's production; the mark of the corssed swords is one of the oldest trademarks in existence.

Part of Minton's Bronze and Ivory collection, designed by Eric Griffiths, Ivory colored bone china and cold cast bronze, begun 1978, withdrawn 1984. "Sheikh", "Geisha", "Fisherman", Spellbound", "Travelers Tale". In 1765, Thomas Minton was born in Shrewsbury, England. After completing his education, he went to work at the Thomas Turner's Caughley porcelain factory. Thomas' passion for pottery and porcelain, led him to seek apprenticeship with Spode, Wedgewood etc. In 1793, Thomas Minton partnered with William Pownall and Joseph Poulson and began building his factory.
