Description

Beautiful dark fruitwood case bracket Clock with locking front and back doors with break arch inserts, made in England for J.E. Caldwell & Co, Philadelphia. Eight Bells, five gong, two chimes: Westminster. James Emott Caldwell was a watchmaker from Poughkeepsie, NY. Set up by J.E. Caldwell in 1836, he started selling watches and clocks. In 1839 the business moved premises to 163 Chestnut Street in Philadelphia, PA and the company name was then Bennett & Caldwell. In 1844, the company moved again and changed it’s name to James E. Caldwell & Co. The company were associated with selling the highest quality clock and watch movements from which they sourced from several companies including J.J. Elliot of London, Winterhalder & Hofmeier etc.
